National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Regulations 2016

New regulations that introduce, from 1 April 2016, the National Living Wage of £7.20 for adults aged 25 years or older, amend other rates to £6.70 for those aged 21-24, £5.30 for those aged 18-20 and £3.87 for those aged under 18, and additionally increase the financial penalty imposed for underpayment of the national minimum wage from 100 per cent to 200 per cent of the arrears owed.

New ballot thresholds to be introduced for important public services

Following a consultation process the government has announced it will bring forward regulations to provide that industrial action in specific services in the fire, health, education, transport, border security and nuclear decommissioning sectors will require the support of at least 40 per cent of all those entitled to vote in the relevant ballot and, additionally, that ballots will also require at least a 50 per cent turnout in order to be valid.
