Managed migration pilot
I’m sure we had a ‘guess when everyone will be on UC’ poll a few years ago. I think I went for 2045…...
You were very ambitious with your 2021 vote Gareth ;)
I think maybe the options needed to go beyond 2027!
2013 seems such a long long time ago

I am told that the introduction of Universal Credit is going smoothly and according to plan.
I’ve just listened twice because I couldn’t believe it the first time around but I think Robert Jenrick just said that there are currently 80 claimants involved in the managed migration pilot and that 13 have moved to UC!!??
And that’s about six months since it started.
This was quite deliberate, they want to get it right. Said with a straight ministerial face; mind you, the SoS was smirking somewhat.
And this means that here can have been no attempt whatsoever made to deal with cases that present any degree of difficulty whatsoever.
At that rate reaching 10,000 claimants for the pilot will go way past 2023!
Here’s a link to his announcement in Hansard
A cynic might argue that the slower the pilot the later it will be before managed migration moves to the next phase. So the issue is kicked down the road. At the present rate it will cease to be a significant issue as the majority of claimants will have moved to UC under the haphazard process of ‘natural migration’ anyway!
I post this having this morning attended a DWP meeting attended by case managers etc from a UC service centre and learning about some of the issues from their end of the process.
Well yes, it suits them down to the ground if people migrate “naturally” without TP instead of in a “managed” manner.
UC Change Director General Neil Couling’s view in a tweet yesterday -
Some commentators argued in 2014 UC would take over a thousand years to roll out based on progress then! We are now have nearly 3 million people on UC. Progress of major projects is never linear. You go slow until you are confident, putting claimants interests ahead of headlines.
Thank You, Mr Couling.
You are never short of confidence. Never. Even when it is wholly unwarranted. Please remember you are years adrift from your original timetable.
I would love to see you put claimants’ interests first. DWP bragging rights trump everything, however.
