Debt related mental and physical health problems cost the UK £979m, estimates StepChange

In a recent survey of the charity's clients, 47 per cent of respondents said they had visited their GP as a result of mental or physical health problems caused by their debts, and a further 6 per cent had visited hospital and 5 per cent had visited Accident and Emergency.

New Bankruptcy and Debt Advice (Scotland) regulations

New regulations provide for a minor technical amendment to make the drafting of article 4(1)(b) of the Bankruptcy and Debt Advice (Scotland) Act 2014 (Commencement No. 2, Savings and Transitionals) Order 2014 on debtor applications for sequestration consistent with article 4(1)(a) on creditor petitions, to avoid any doubt that a different effect was intended.

3.1 per cent decrease in debt relief orders in England and Wales during 2014

New statistics from the Insolvency Service also show that the number of bankruptcies in 2014 was 17.3 per cent lower than in 2013, but that the number of individual voluntary arrangements increased by 6.8 per cent over the same period.

Personal insolvencies in Scotland back to pre-recession levels

New Scottish insolvency statistics for the third quarter of 2014-2015 include that there were a total of 2,633 personal insolvencies, 12 per cent lower than the previous quarter and 21.3 per cent lower than the same quarter a year ago, continuing a long term decline since 2008-2009.

New regulations that increase the maximum amount of debt to £20,000, and the maximum total value of property to £1,000, which a person may have in order to be eligible for a debt relief order.
