Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can clarify whether or not someone can claim cont based ESA on Carer’s Credits alone? The person has not worked for many years so hasn’t paid any class 1 conts.
I’ve tried to make sense of what the conditions are but I seem to be getting more confused than ever so if anyone has the answer I’d appreciate it.

Cheers.

Elena.

I believe they are. Not 100% mind but I think so.

And do persuade your client to follow through on it if you can. Mine wouldn’t- much to my chagrin because I’m certain we’re right. Good luck!

Hi 1964, cheers, I will definately follow it through if it’s refused, I really want to make sure this client gets the ESA that he should be entitled to.
I will keep you posted :)

Thanks again everyone.

Elena.

Hi,

Just had client in having been advised by ‘someone’ from the council dealing with his claim for council tax benefit/reduction that he should claim ESA as he’d qualify based on his contributions from Carers Allowance - had been caring for his parent until they passed away earlier this month. I’ve advised him that he might have problems - not clear when he last ‘paid’ contributions, nor how long he’d actually been on CA - wont quallify for any meanstested benefits.

Will let you know the outcome.

Hey Grunkle,

Interesting, ‘someone’ from the council - great that - telling him he should claim ESA based on his Carer’s Credits. My client has put a claim in but needs a fit note and hardly seems galvanised to get one so I don’t know how far this will go.

Be interesting to hear how your one gets on. Oh btw, was that a typo, the last bit, ‘nor how long he’d actually been on ESA’....... assuming you meant CA??

Cheers,

Elena.
