I notice that on page 10 of the new “How to appeal…” document replacing the GL24 there is a handy piece entitled “about your representative” which goes on to list what a good rep should be able to do along with a dire warning that “A poor rep can actually damage the prospects of success”.  See attachement.

On the other hand, on reading the rest of the document, there is nothing to suggest what the appellant can expect from a good Judge / Presenting Officer / Clerk etc and how a “poor” Judge may actually damage your prospects of success.

Perhaps between us we could give some ideas for the second edition….........................

What is this “Presenting Officer” you mention?

On the same page, it says a good representative should be able to liaise wth the DWP to see if the case can be settled without going to a tribunal hearing - and just how easy is it to do that?

This all seemed strangely familiar to me.  It is a complete lift from the old Appeals Service’s “How to appeal” booklet - page 16, paragraph e:

Never really seen the need for a “summary” of the case. That should be what’s in the aappeal papers and your appeal letter. I’ll only do a written submission if it’s a complex case e.g. “hospital or similar institution”, co-hab. and so on.

I now find myself singing Talking Heads

“Presenting Office, qu’est que c’est?

Fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa”

No Tony no - I have a letter from IDS which states ‘We will do this without delay….’ when referring to mandatory reconsideration.
