Hi

Just a reminder of the next NAWRA meeting which takes place in York on Friday 9th December.

We are very pleased to have Kate Pickett as one of our guest speakers.  Kate is co-author of the acclaimed ‘The Spirit Level’ which examines why more equal societies almost always do better and, conversely, why greater inequality has a negative impact on society as a whole.  Originally published in 2009, the book was voted one of the top 10 of the decade by New Statesman magazine.

Our second guest speaker is Nancy Kelley, Deputy Director of Policy and Research with the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.  Nancy leads the foundations work on Place and Poverty.

Continuing our policy theme, workshops include an examination of the likely impact of welfare reform on children, families and disabled people. We will also consider ESA and mental health issues and take a look at the localisation of Council Tax Benefit.

These are just some of the highlights - full details can be found at http://www.nawra.org.uk.  Meeting are for members only but if you are not already a member, you can join on the day.

For those arriving on the Thursday evening there is the usual NAWRA social gathering.  Details are also on the website.

Hope to see you there!

Best wishes,

Alan Markey
