31 year old (A) lives with her her daughter aged 7.
Her mother (B) also lives with them.

B has MND and is in the final 6 months of her life. Claimed all relevant benefits etc.

A was working part time (16 hours) and claiming UC. Stopped working on 16/06/23 as was overwhelmed with caring for her daughter and her mother.
Submitted sick certificates and UC50 sent.
A does not have a diagnosis of a mental health condition. However, she is unable to divide her attention, focus and attend to any work outside of her role as a mother and a carer. Overwhelmed.
Deemed as ‘fit to work’ following UC50 and subsequent phone assessment.

An appeal is obviously an option but is likely to put A through a process that frankly she would rather avoid.
I am considering a claim for carers allowance.

Thoughts?

Carer’s allowance will give her exemption from condionality and the carer element of £185.86 - she should have been getting the carer element the whole time she has been caring even when working so worth following this up - did she declare her carer status?

If an appeal was successful and put her into LCWRA it is just over £200 a month more (difference between LCWRA and carer element), but like you say, if depends what she can deal with. She could register an appeal to at least keep her options open - it might not be heard for some time.

Maybe just explain the different options and let her decide what she can cope with.
