Robots
They are making robots?
Can I be the first to reply “The computer says no….”
They are making robots?
... in a garage!
An interesting alternative perspective can be found at https://www.computerweekly.com/news/252441301/DWP-IT-engineering-is-dysfunctional-and-lacks-ability-to-deliver-claims-report
The phrase “repetitive and mundane” cropped up and I couldn’t but help laugh. I’ve a link to a great article somewhere which points out that robots do not take tasks or jobs. Those are decisions made by management.
Now, anyone else think that the single most worrying aspect of that video was the sheer volume of extraordinary eyebrows? Not that I’m suggesting the people in it were anything like automatons or anything?
EDIT: This is not the actual article but you get the gist. https://novaramedia.com/2018/03/20/robots-arent-coming-for-our-jobs-capitalists-are/
[ Edited: 2 Sep 2019 at 05:06 pm by Mike Hughes ]Came across this recent update on the Intelligent Automation Garage:
The Intelligent Automation Garage (IAG) is a fast-paced and collaborative workspace, using agile working methods to continuously improve and design-led practices to test and explore innovative ideas. We use of a range of technologies, including:
- Robotic Process Automation and Chatbots that stimulate human conversation.
- Deep learning to analyse in a logical way that comes to humans naturally.
- Machine learning that adapts using data without explicit instructions. These technologies use artificial intelligence and developing tools to automate menial work, resulting in increased speed, productivity, efficiency, and accuracy reducing errors and risk. Ultimately, making it easier for those in need to access the help, advice, and financial support they require. Better serving customers and meeting the expectations of a digital society.

An awful lot words but a conspicuous failure to mention either the quality/accuracy of the outcomes; any analysis of built in bias (which is the major problem with all of this) and no mention of any kind of equality impact assessment.
However good the technology is they still use post it notes!
On the one hand stimulating conversation and performing the sort of deep and logical analysis that comes naturally to humans ... but on the other hand ‘menial work’ ... which is it?
“Robotic Process Automation and Chatbots that stimulate human conversation”
i’m intrigued. How do they do that? Do the robots say things like “Tell us a joke”, “How was your weekend?” or “fancy a pint?” Or could they possibly mean “simulate” human conversation?
Maybe the robots wrote it. If so, a bit of work on vocabulary and grammar is required.
