UC housing element if rent paid 6 months in advance

Hi everyone, I have a claimant who is married with 2 children and in receipt of Universal credit to top up his full time wage. They are having difficulty securing a rented property due to being on UC and I wondered if the client’s father paid 6 months rent in advance would UC still accept they have a rent liability and include the housing element?

Many thanks.

Yes, paying rent in advance doesn’t diminish liability. UC should treat the rent as payable each month as normal.

If they have that amount of money lying around it may also help reduce deductions for capital over £6000.
