Zero hrs contract - Furlough
Client single 24yr old fulltime degree student in Scotland, she worked part time average 20-30hrs per week in a café has been employed for the last three years, employer initially told her she would be furloughed and has since advised her the” company is not eligible” she has returned to the North of Ireland to live with her parents as she has no income.
How can she challenge this and with whom? Would appreciate any assistance thank you.
If she has a contract I think she could pursue her employer under Employment Law if she’s not being paid her contracted hours or agreed to not being paid for a period. I’d suggest she speaks to ACAS.
Thank you Mairi and yes I will do that I can’t understand why her employer didn’t furlough her when the business was closed due to lockdown and she was on the pay roll being a student she can’t access any benefits and has no income.
