Twitter ye not!

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your outlook) our LA’s IT blocks social network sites.

Tony, you social phillistine.  Don’t you know that Twitter is the source of all revolutions?  Down with the kids!  Innit!

Twitter is blocked to us as well .
Following the recent move of NAWRA’s discussion forum to Twitter , I did enquire through our IT chappies if we (Welfare Rights Team) could have access only to be told a business case has to be drawn up and then it has to go through management .

Tony B is not alone- I don’t understand Twitter either. In fact, I still don’t own a mobile phone. We’re a bit primitive us Berkshire folk.

Lol!  When I was about 12 my dad who was working at the time was offered a job in Bracknell.  he ended up not taking it due to the protestations of me, my brother and my sisters who did not want to leave our friends.  Sometimes, I wonder if we did the right thing and what would our lives have been if we went.  Do you think we were right?  Did we miss out?

Reminds me of a Victoria Wood sketch: “Round ‘ere we never even had muesli till 1992”.

Interesting article on tweeting on People Management website.

In the meantime, employers should have a clear social media policy which:

• details what employees must and must not do, and explains that the rules extend to all social media activity, irrespective of whether this takes place during working hours or not
• states explicitly that breaches of the policy will result in disciplinary action and could, in serious cases, lead to dismissal
• dovetails with the organisation’s disciplinary and harassment policies, and with existing policies on acceptable use of the internet
• is applied consistently across the business.

It may be necessary to provide training to line managers on what constitutes social media misuse.

Employers need to take ‘tweeters’ to task
