Instant fines for incorrect benefit claims

As if it isn’t already hard enough to get people to claim what they are rightfully entitled to .... we will now have the prospect of :

“Civil penalties will be introduced for people who negligently give incorrect information on their benefit claim, or don’t tell the Department for Work and Pensions quickly about a change in their circumstances. These will be civil penalties, not criminal convictions”

Judging by the number of disputes and overpayments/underpayments we see which stem from failure to notify. This should be a nice little revenue raiser for the government!
