capital for council tax benefit when one of a couple in a care home
Couple have £31K capital - Mr is in a care home so LA divide by 2. As she is now treated as a single person, should Mrs have to declare her husband’s capital when claiming CTB or can she just declare her share ie; £15,500?
My advice is for it ALL to be disclosed with a clear explanation about how much belongs to whom.
That approach *should* avoid any later difficulties and/or unpleasant accusations.
