Cuts to ESA and UC work allowances defeated in the House of Commons
“MPs vote by 284 votes to 265 against the motion
An opposition day motion calling for the reversal of cuts to the work-related activity component of employment and support allowance (ESA) and universal credit work allowances, was defeated yesterday in the House of Commons.”
There are 231 Labour MP’s and 54 SNP MP’s. Total 285.
Apparently not all Labour and SNP MP’s disagree with the cuts.
They might not disagree or they might be “paired” because they are on foreign trips, sick in hospital, at urgent meetings in their constituencies, burying a loved one. etc
These motions are gesture politics. They aim to impress those who are impressed by gestures or who impress themselves.
This is designed to provide one line in a speech about how these awful Tory MPs damage the disabled and how wicked they are.
..sick in hospital
Let’s hope they won’t have to rely on ESA then.

Well I certainly wouldn’t disagree with that.
