“Andy ended up taking a deal at his December tribunal: he could have his benefit reinstated and backdated, as long he accepted a lower rate”

Eh?  How did that work?  Yes, judge he’ll accept two years in the WRAG with good behaviour.

Benefits stopped, using food banks…better call Saul.

As many below-the-line comments have pointed out (at the cost of being castigated by less well-informed contributors) there is something not quite right about that story: quite a few bits don’t ring entirely true, or at least not the full picture.

On the “plea bargain”, I think the most plausible explanation is that he was put into WRAG after the MR and decided not to take it any further, no doubt after being leant on very heavily by DWP to save them the bother of dealing with an appeal.

Or possibly he was previously in SG, failed WCA entirely and subsequent tribunal allowed his appeal but WRAG rather than SG?

As you say, as always with these things (even with the ‘respectable’ press) it never quite makes sense.
