Altered Work Allowances
Sorry for not keeping up with this but is it correct that the only people who can earn and receive a work allowance now are those who are single and/or a couple with a child./children and those who are limited capability for work. Can I assume the single claimants and couples without cchildren cannot earn any work allowance at all and whats the reasoning all behind this!
The new, groovy work allowances from April 16 are below. The WA for everyone else is Nil.. The reasoning was panic over the need for ‘welfare cuts’, although obviously the changes will help people get in to work more easily and any one who says otherwise is a silly-poo (that’s about the level of the reasoning, anyway)
A Work Allowance can only apply if the claimant(s) is responsible for a child/ren or qualifying young person(s) or the claimant(s) has LCW or LCWWRA.
• Higher Work Allowance – applied if not receiving housing costs element: £397 per assessment period
• Lower Work Allowance – applied if receiving housing costs element: £192 per assessment period
Only one allowance will be available per household.
