Mairi, do you mean the Brock Barracks shelter on the Oxford Road? Run by the Simon Community? I was a volunteer there for a while when I was a student (around 1982/83). But our paths could well have crossed- I was working for Reading Borough Council (Housing Benefit) during the period you mentioned (and joined my current organisation in 1990). Small world indeed….
I certainly do - although the organisation I worked for was Reading Emergency Accommodation Project (REAP). Hot and cold running walls, cell doors in the toilets and rings on the wall and all…....
Yep!! Remember it well….
REAP turned into Launchpad and is still going.
