That’s what The Times would have us believe today - the lifting of A2 and A8 restrictions.

more a running out than a lifting the original scheme was due to expire for A8 workers in 2009 and the government were allowed
a 2 year extension which expires on 30 April 2011

The only thing that is being abolished is the requirement for workers Registration Documents. The old A8 concept has gone and all Europeans still have to pass the Right to Reside Test and the (physical) Habitual Resedence Test.
