Tweet earlier from @NeilCouling, Universal Credit Director General:

Not a cloud in the sky apart from the one we successfully moved the #UniversalCredit digital service onto earlier today. Progress, progress

Trouble is, I think some of them truly believe that “the cloud”, as in computing, really is one of those fluffy things in the sky.

Apparently, Skynet is already a real thing under the MoD.

Is UC on Cloud Nine? Or merely in Cloud Cuckoo Land?

How soon till Neil Couling becomes self-aware? He’s presumably still collecting the thank-you cards from grateful sanctionees. Wonder if he got one from ‘Sarah’?

New blog piece from the Government Digital Service:

There are so many committed teams delivering digital services all over government, it feels unnatural to highlight just one - but when it comes to doing stuff that matters, at scale, and under pressure, the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) team developing the Universal Credit (UC) Digital Service is impossible to ignore ....

Apparently there are a lot of hidden costs with cloud computing - https://www.publictechnology.net/articles/news/cloud-transformation-adding-costs-and-complexity - and also ‘over half of UK public sector organisations said that cloud had in fact increased the complexity of their ICT environment.’

but I’m sure UC will have it all on time and on budget…

I’m looking forward to a pint (or two) of Cloud Nine in the Red Lion tonight (after the week I’ve had .....)
