Client is now an 18 year old who had been getting DLA high rate care and lower rate mobility from age 4 until award ran out on 8th June 2015. The claim wasn’t renewed on time due to the ill health of his mother, his appointee. I’ve now been told that he can no longer make a claim for DLA but has to be for PIP as he is over 16 and the claim wasn’t renewed on time. Does anyone know if this is right and if this lad has to make a claim for PIP instead of DLA when he has the form already????

The cases like this I came across when PIP was coming in ended with abandoning the DLA claim; in some cases, the claimants actually got a higher award of PIP than they did under DLA. My experience so far has been that when a DLA award ends, wave goodbye to it. Perhaps someone has had a different experience..?

Thanks for the reply Edmund. So PIP it is then. I was hoping to hold on to the DLA for him but it doesn’t look like it will be possible. Hope you’re right about the new PIP award!! :)
