Ps - if you’re interested, there’s also some background info from CitA on how they’ve gone about developing their new benefit content @

It is very good, will definitely promote it.
In an area with no Universal credit atm but can someone assist me
I previewed the pages and like them but have a question
says no homeowners can apply but all the information I have suggests there is mortgage interest relief as their is in IS/ESA etc and the latest budget suggests this will at some point become a loan and have to be paid back
Have I missed something simple ?

UC inludes owner-occupier housing costs (in a similar way to legacy benefits.)
However the gateway conditions which control who can make a new claim for UC (outside the digital trial area) currently exclude owner-occupiers.
The requirement that you are not a homeowner is a ‘gateway condition’ currently operating in all areas other than Croydon and Sutton. Assuming that you are looking at this page ‘https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/universal-credit/before-you-apply/universal-credit-eligibility/’
it is listed BELOW the header:
‘The following conditions will also apply (unless you live in Sutton or Croydon)’
I think that’s the simple thing you’ve misssed
You are however right, once UC is fully rolled out then homeowners will be included as well but they are too complicated for the system to handle at the moment ...
thankyou a collegue here who worked at DWP ( not in benefits) said when i asked out loud in the week
‘probably because they cant get the computer system working with mortgages’
thankyou all for the imput
question answered thanks all
The help for homeowners differs crucially in one area from other MTBs. No help at all if there are any earnings - the ‘Zero Earnings’ rule.. This is offset, for some, by a higher level of disregarded income. The recent changes in Work Allowances will alter the situation in many cases though. Our Future Benefits Model is still running the owners scenarios but I should have some figures soon.
