DWP telling GP not to issue a medical certificate
Hello,
A client has rang me to say when he went to see GP to request another sick note - his ESA appeal is pending - the GP states DWP have written to surgery to ask GP not to issue any more med certs because patient has been found fit for work!
The GP has written one only because patient was able to give him a date for the appeal; med cert dated to appeal date only.
Anyone else aware of this or has someone got their wires crossed?
Thanks

This has come up before. I found the link below but seem to recall a more recent discussion on here about it:
thank you - will look at the thread
and a similar thread.
Hmmm, very interesting. Thank you for your time and links.

Yes, I remember this with a client about two years ago. The problem is that the letter the DWP sends to the GP starts off by telling them that they don’t need to supply notes any more. If they then read down to the bottom they are informed that in certain circs, such as an appeal they can continue to do so, but anyone glancing over the letter quickly would assume they have been instructed to stop supplying sick notes. In my own client’s case, I had to request a letter from the DWP to the GP to confirm that they should continue. However, this GP was particularly obdurate. I think in most cases it would be enough to ring the surgery and request they read to the bottom. Ruth
