Can anyone clarify as I am getting conflicting advice from HMRC, Skills Funding agency and JCP…......

Young person, lone parent offered an apprenticeship at the usual low rate - I am informed £95 a week - HMRC say no entitlement to WTC as hourly rate so low, no route therefore to claim help with childcare.

The other two say no HMRC must pay WTC as YP is on an employment contract albeit as an apprentice….........

Confused so please help!!

Thanks Tony, much appreciated.

Just called the adviser helpline at HMRC…....after some discussion and further review they have agreed that YP can indeed claim WTC and help with childcare costs
