When to make the switch from JSA to ESA to minimise income issues?
Dear all, just a quicky as to when the best time is to close down a JSA claim and make a fresh claim for ESA when the client is paid fortnightly - is it best after the sign on date for the week or the when the payment actually goes into the account?
Then when putting in the new claim for ESA as the payments for JSA are in arrears does the claimant has to wait for two weeks before putting in the new ESA claim as technically they are still in the period covered by the payment and therefore entitled to JSA?
Apologies if this makes little sense hopefully someone will know what I mean!!
thanks v much
Clare
I would advise client to make the new ESA claim the day after the date client last signed on as his final JSA payment should be issued by DWP systems to credit his account within 3 working days so he will have that benefit to live on pending decision on ESA claim.
If client vulnerable, form can always be faxed with medical certificate to local BC with request for urgent decision to minimise risk of any delays in payment.
