Hi,

I’ve seen a Cl who is looking to claim a death benefit from his late wife’s Trade Union. As yet, it is not clear if this is a lump sum or regular payment. Cl currently receives GSPC.

Looking through Pg940 of CPAG - What counts as income, a regular payment of the benefit from the Union does not seem to count as being classed as income as it is not mentioned and if it is not on the list, it is not included. Nor can I find it in the capital section.

Can anyone confirm if this is the case?

Many thanks.

You may wish to stop worrying and wait until you have further information as to the amount due, and the method of payment.

When my husband died, after paying in to his union’s death benefit scheme for more than 40 years, I received a one-off payment of £30.    I did have the grace to write and say thank you.
