Pre-empting PIP: lower care DLA reviews?

We have a number of low care DLA up for renewal in the few months after the introduction of PIP. We are pretty certain that they, and a few on the middle rate care, will lose their disability benefits if they had to apply for PIP instead.

We have been thinking of how we can help these people and wondered what scope there is for notifying now of a change of circumstances: for some this could be if their care needs have increased to need middle rate care, but what chance would there be to notify that there is change of prognosis so that there is now a longer term care need, and ask for a revision of the length of the award? I know that the length of an award can be appealed, so can one submit a revision request on this basis and then appeal if they don’t extend the award? Has anyone any experience of this?

Any other PIP pre-empting ideas welcome!

Thanks

You can apply for a supersession or revision of the length of the award, although it does carry the risk that the amount will be looked at as well. It won’t necessarily help with the PIP situation - the DWP is saying that the process of terminating DLA claims and inviting a PIP claim will be completely random so even people with a longer award could find their DLA stopping any time after October 2013.
