IS sanctions transferring to ESA

Cl has been on IS for a number of years (lone parent), and has now been given a sicknote & diagnosis & as a result, claimed ESA.  She had told me about some reductions to IS in the past, but today drops the bombshell that she has 3 (yes! I know) concurrent sanctions for failing to attend WFI’s.  What is the impact of those on the ESA claim?  Will she continue to be sanctioned until she finally goes to the jobcentre (I will carry her if I have to), or will she go back up to the full rate?

Hi,

I can’t see how the ESA regs would allow an IS sanction to be carried over, so I don’t think the sanction can follow her to ESA. But, possibly it could wait for her so that if she ever reclaims IS the sanction will reappear again.

Great, that was my suspicion.  Thanks.
