I have a lone parent living in Housing Association property. She has 7 children with youngest under 1 year. Not likely to be able to work due to childcare costs, childcare logistics, young child etc. No health problems. Income of IS CHild Benefit and Housing Benefit. Total benefits currently £635 per week approx. This is £135 over the £500 cap. HB and rent is £92 per week. From next year cap will apply so reduced benefits and no HB. With the cap there will be no entitlement to any HB. Under current rules no discretionary HB could be payable as no ent to weekly HB.

Are the discretionary pyts rules to be revised in any way to assist?
Even if they are unlikely to get £92 per week so any other suggestions?

Thank you for this - at least it is a bit of a light. Could still be a big shortfall depending on any DHP that can be paid.

I suppose you’ve explored whether any of the children have any disabilities/health problems which might point to potential DLA claim?
