Wouldn’t a claimant effectively ‘leave (even creds only ESA) benefit’ by signing on. Presumably they could wait for the 1 year to be up then claim creds on JSA for 12 weeks and then make a fresh ESA and if they happen to meet the NI conditions they would be able to restart the 1 year clock and get an ESA award in the assessment phase and WRAG. Working out a claimant’s contribution history is usually a bit hit and miss but worth a try if they want to do it.
