ESA contribution based - partner leaves property
hi
I have a client who is on ESA conts support group. he didn’t qualify for EDP or SDP as his partner worked.
His partner has just left him, he has made a claim for UC for housing costs and been asked to provide sicknotes. is there anyway of getting the additional premiums as part of managed migration. we went to full service 18th April and his partner left him in June.

Unfortunately he comes under natural migration and there are no sdp and edp equivalents within UC . However, the LCWRA element is more than the support component plus the edp so at least he can benefit from that.
I may be wrong on this but…If there was a gap (even a short one) between his partner leaving and him claiming UC, he should be able to get the SDP/EDP during this gap paid as IRESA (providing he fits the criteria), up to the date of his UC claim.
If he can get the SDP/EDP during this gap, he then may be able to benefit from transitional protections detailed in this thread to compensate him for the loss of the SDP: https://www.rightsnet.org.uk/forums/viewthread/13135/
