Hi Everyone

Does anybody know what the fees for bankruptcy will be from next month?  There’s nothing on insolvency.gov.uk, the only thing I can find from googling it is that the court fee is set to increase from £150 to £175 but it’s not a reliable source.

Thanks!

I’m not aware that the Insolvency Service give advance warning or information before publishing increases on their website, presumably to avoid a last minute rush of applicants. When fees went up last year, we knew about it before the local bankruptcy court did.

Bankruptcy petitioners who do not qualify for fee remission pay a fee to the court, which is increasing from £150 to £175 (according to this order). They also pay a “deposit” to the Official Receiver, which is not subject to fee remission. I don’t think we know for sure what is happening to the deposit. Last April it had a whopping increase from £360 to £450.

Hi,
Citizens Advice has confirmed that from 4 April, the court fee for a debtor’s petition will go up from £150 to £175. This means a total cost of £625, including the Official Receiver’s deposit. Clients intending to go bankrupt may want to submit their petition before that date so that they pay the lower fee. Don’t forget to check whether the client can get a court fee remission.
The fee for a bankruptcy discharge certificate is also increasing along with many other court fees and charges.

Hope this helps,
Chaos

The Insolvency Service are putting the deposit up to £525 from 1st June, making the total cost of bankruptcy £700 for someone not eligible for fee remission.
