If a 16 year old remains in full time non -advanced education wants to work over the summer school holiday, does Child Benefit/Child Tax Credit entitlement end for mum if child works 24 hours a week or more during that period? what would happen in mum received UC child element rather than Child Tax Credit?

Hi CHC

As long as the young person has not ceased full-time non-advanced education, and the education is not provided by a contract of employment, entitlement should continue.

Child Benefit: Still qualifies under CB Reg 3 ( https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2006/223/regulation/3 ) - there is no disqualification due to remunerative work in this regualtion. The disqualification due to young person in work only applies in Reg 5 (CB extension period) or Reg 7 (terminal dates). CPAG handbook p.563

Child tax credit: Still qualifies under CTC Reg 5 ( https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2002/2007/regulation/5 ). Disqualification under Reg 5(4) only applies if “ceased to receive full-time education “. CPAG handbook p.267

Universal credit: Still qualifies under Reg 5 ( https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2013/376/regulation/5 ) as long as education not provided by means of a contract of employment.
