What kind of training are you looking for, Nigel? I’m afraid I can’t puzzle it out from your post. The first part of your post suggests it’s about sanctions or incorrect claimant commitments and the second part is suggestive that it’s about the HRT.

CPAG offers a range of courses across the country on a range of issues, if that’s any help. Welfare Rights units and so on also offer courses regionally, but I’m not familiar with those in the Barnsley area, unfortunately.

Hi Thank you
I may have confused you and appologies.
I am looking at training regarding the effects of how people are treated from abroad when they claim jobseekers. Under the old rules you would advise someone from abroad to claim jobseekers to retain their worker status, but now under the changes we are finding more and more people from abroad are being affected by losing thir worker status as in the may get jobseekers but not entitled to housing benefit because they are not classed as a work seeker.

I know there is much help on rights net on how to tackle this but feel I need to go on a course to find more for myself.
It doesnt have to be in barnsley either. I did a course run by NHAS yesterday and they seem to run a webinar called “persons from abroad-changes to benefit entitlement”, this type of course I think will cover what i am after.

I was a welfare benefits specialist caseworker for many years but now I have another role and feel am getting rusty so need to keep my competencies up.

Leeds manchester may be even london wou be ok as i dont live near barnsley so am open. Its just finding the right course to go on.

Thank you for your help

best wishes

Nigel

Nigel, I’d recommend you get yourself booked on a CPAG course (http://www.cpag.org.uk).  Their ‘Right to reside & Habitual Residence’ course would be a good starting point. According to my timetable, it’s running on 11th November in Manchester so it might be worth checking if they have any places left, or 29th January in Liverpool.
