Permitted work in assesment phase

Sorry if this has been brought up before but am I right in thinking it is possible to do permitted work while in the assesment phase of ESA? (contradictory as it seems). CPAG seems to infer that you have to be one of the two groups but I have seen conflicting information after a trawl of the internet.

Absolutely possible.  I have only recently dealt with such a case first hand and the person did undertake a small amount of such work.  This was prior to the WCA - this is due shortly.
