Welsh Government announces extra £5 million funding for Discretionary Assistance Fund

In addition, Finance Minister confirms an additional £5 million to help protect workers not eligible for Job Retention or Job Support Schemes

The Welsh Government has announced an extra £5 million funding for the Discretionary Assistance Fund.

Highlighting that the Fund can provide grants to people in need of urgent help during the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis, including those waiting for benefit payments and those in employment who are facing hardship, the Welsh Finance Minister Rebecca Evans said - 

'We cannot protect every job and every business hit by this global pandemic, but we are taking every action we can to support people in need of urgent financial help which is why a further £5 million will be dedicated to support our Discretionary Assistance Fund.'

Ms Evans also announced that the Welsh Government is increasing, also by £5 million, the £20 million discretionary fund provided to local authorities to support businesses retain those workers at risk of falling through the gaps between the Job Retention Scheme and the new Job Support Scheme.
