Government deposits illustrative regulations relating to Coronavirus Bill in House of Commons Library

Regulations relate to suspension of SSP waiting days and smaller employers being able to reclaim SSP

The government has deposited illustrative regulations relating to the Coronavirus Bill 2019-21 in the House of Commons Library.

The three sets of illustrative regulations, which were deposited in the Library by Minister for Disabled People Justin Tomlinson, relate to provisions within the Bill that -

• give the government the power to temporarily suspend the rule that means statutory sick pay (SSP) is not paid for the first three days of work missed because of sickness absence; and
• enable employers with fewer than 250 employees to reclaim SSP paid for sickness absences relating to coronavirus (COVID-19) during the period of the outbreak.

NB - there are two sets of regulations relating to the repayment of SSP to employers - one for Great Britain and one for Northern Ireland.
