Suitability of appointee
Would someone who is not literate be accepted as an appointee for someone with little capacity to manage their benefit claims?
In my experience DWP don’t ask much of the appointee in setting an appointee up; however I would be loathe to advise someone who can’t read notifications to act as anyone’s appointee. If there’s nobody more suitable maybe Social Services could help?
Nottinghamshire County Council look to be the authority providing social care on your patch.
I agree with Dan. It may be possible but inadvisable.
Perhaps a tangent but the Court of Protection did just recently hold that functional illiteracy was not an absolute barrier to becoming a financial deputy - http://www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWCOP/2016/14.html. It depends on what else they bring to the table versus a corporate appointment. I think the logic is equally applicable.
