Do you have clients affected by the benefit cap?

As part of our ongoing campaign against the benefit cap introduced by the Welfare Reform Act 2012, CPAG is looking for families affected by the cap. The benefit cap for families with children is currently £26,000.  The Welfare Reform and Work Act 2016 will lower this cap in Autumn 2016 to £20,000, and £23,000 in London.

We are interested to hear from single mothers in London who have been affected by the benefit cap.

If you know of a possible case, please complete the test case referral form attached including the following information:

-      The amount of shortfall in rent
-      What kind of housing the family live in
-      Whether they applied for a discretionary housing payment and if so, if it was granted or refused

By bringing test cases, CPAG aims to improve the interpretation of the law so it promotes the rights of claimants -  in particular families with children. We want to secure fairness in the system and ensure that benefit provision is as widespread and generous as possible.

The families can stay anonymous, and would only need to give us information about their situation. We are happy to talk through what would be involved with families or advisors.
