Desccriptor 2 - taking nutrition
Hi I have a client who suffers from chronic, persistent vomiting (6/7 times per day). He is fed through a Hickman line and has been given 6 points on this descriptor for needing assistance to take nutrition.
Discussing grounds for appeal the client told me that the nurse who manages his Hickman line said all her other patients receive 10 points on this descriptor for ‘cannot convey food to their mouth’; the logic being that if they did not have Hickman line they would be unable to eat and drink ‘normally’ as they would immediately vomit. I can see what she is getting at but can’t see how you get round he needing another person to convey food to mouth.
Any comments or thoughts appreciated
