Client is on a s117 and living with parents. Her care co-ordinator has tried to get free prescriptions for her as part of her s117 aftercare. However cl owns a property which she rents out and therefore the HC1 application has been unsuccessful because of her capital. Her care co-ordinator says she has been told she is on contribution based ESA - I assume because she is the support group so the capital does not effect her entitlement.

Can anyone advise on free prescriptions as part of s117 aftercare and if they are available regardless of benefit capital rules and if so how do you apply for them?

Hi
Yes, you are exempt from prescription charges for for psychiatric medication if entitled to Section 117 aftercare. I’m not sure exactly how you go about applying but the NHS Business Services Authority should be able to advise:  0300 330 1341
