Transfering money for Funeral Expenses

My client has an uncle (92) who is terminally ill and he is his only next of kin. Uncle has social work involvement but is now at the point where he’s giving up i.e. not opening mail, not managing his affairs.

His illness is aggressive and advanced and client has taken the liberty of completing a power of attorney form which hopefully he’ll sign in the presence of his social worker etc. The point is that he is a self-funder and client has no idea what savings / assets he has. He could be below the 23k threshold but equally he could be well above.

In terms of funeral expenses, the question is can he legitimately transfer money to client to be set aside as funeral expenses?

he could buy a prepaid funeral plan, if he hasn’t already…. one thing my mother made sure to tell me about (about the only thing she did!) so at least I know where those docs are when she goes…...
