Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere, couldn’t see it on the debt page. The Money Advice Liaison Group (MALG) published its updated guidelines on mental health and debt at the end of March:

there’s also this from earlier:

and this from MSE from January:

I have only recently realised that HMRC expect evidence via the MALG form (it would help if tax credits published a debt policy document *grumble* ):

Debt and mental health evidence form

Evidence can come in a variety of written forms, but in order to make sure that we have the information you should send a copy of the Debt and Mental Health Evidence Form (web) to be completed.

The form should only be used where the customer has mental health issues that affect their ability to manage their finances. As some health professionals may charge for completing the DMHEF we cannot insist on it. As an alternative, written evidence from any of the sources mentioned above would be acceptable, but it would need to include, as a minimum, information describing the nature of the illness and how that illness affects the person’s ability to carry out their normal day-to-day activities, particularly in relation to their ability to manage their finances.
