ATOS said his wheelchair was a fire risk
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-29335424
and it seems he’s had to go to tribunal to win.
but next time? no doubt, he’ll have it all to do again…
“Last year he was turned away from an assessment for Incapacity Benefit at a building in Rutland Street, Leicester, because Atos was “unable to allow access” to people with walking aids.
It claimed the number of stairs they would need to descend in a fire posed a fire risk.
At the tribunal, he was told his Disability Living Allowance, now called the Personal Independence Payment, will be reinstated and backdated to 2012.”
Er…
Perhaps he has another appeal coming up?
Something akin to this a couple of years ago when 4 people in Wheelchairs were left on the second floor - where ATOS had its assessment offices- the fire alarm goes off and the 4 people in wheelchairs were abandoned by ATOS Staff only to be rescued by the Fire Brigade. How much training have ATOS Staff had in both cases?
I am glad he won his case.

It’s a very confused news story isn’t it?
My first thought was similar to yours….
