Hello

If a couple and a single person share a house is their rent apportioned as 50% for couple and 50% for single person or 33.3 % each?

Thanks

There is no hard and fast rule: the Council has to take into account any relevant factors, including in particular the number of joint tenants and any arrangements they have made among themselves.  In this case, if it was me assessing it I would ask them how they have agreed between them to share the rent: either 50/50 or one third/two thirds would be perfectly reasonable.

Other relevant factors might include:

- whether the bedrooms are different sizes
- whether any of them has a child
- whether they have an understanding that any rooms other than bedrooms are used onoly by one or other of them
