Carer’s Allowance and fortnightly care

Can anyone think of any way that someone who looks after her severely disabled adult daughter every other weekend would be able to establish an on-going entitlement to Carer’s Allowance?

For the weekend daughter is there, the 35-hours rule can be satisfied but can’t see any way to circumvent this on other weekend, and therefore nil CA entitlement throughout appears to be the case.

Anyone?

Paul, if you have the Disability rights Handbook check out the Caring for 35 hours a week on page 52.

The example given is almost identical to your query. With CA paid from Sunday to Saturday your client will struggle to meet the 35 hours i.e. the Sunday hours caring are in a different week to the Saturday hours.

Thanks Mick, should have looked in there first, most helpful (although not to my client who may be staring down the barrel of a huge overpayment potentially).
