Loss of SDP in pension credit when on AA
We have a case of a couple -
- both in their 90’s,
- both on AA
- both getting carers premium for caring for each other
both getting SDP because of the dual AA and no actual carers allowance in payment.
The DWP have written to give their uprated benefits from April, but have also told them that from 9 february 2015 they will lose both SDP amounts. The CP appears to stay in place.
We are at aloss to work out why this should happen, and do not know the significance of the 2015 date. DWP so afr also seem unable to answer the query why.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
Are there some nasty changes to SDP and premiums for PC next year which have passed us by? We are aware of changes affecting PIP claimants and Universal credit etc, but were unaware that any changes to PC will be for some time yet.
Hope someone can help!
No changes according to this until April 2015 , usually, at the earliest. Why it would change in February 2015 and not April 2015 is odd. And, I haven’t heard of anything.

Could just be one of the wierd computer-produced letter blips, like the one a few years back when everything was going to end in November 1899 or whatever the date was.
There are a number of announced changes to PC which, as yet, have no date attached:
Mixed-age couples
Capital Cut-off
Pension Credit Plus
Pension Credit single-tier etc.
It’s just possible that it matches one of those with an internal date. Even if they would be unaffected by the specific changes the changes might trigger some global reassessment. I wouldn’t be surprised to see changes around SDP for example.
Thanks for all these suggestions. I am pleased not to be the only one in the dark!
DWP themselves have suggested verbally that it might link to an AA award ending, but that doesn’t really wash - if the SDP was to go, one of the CPs would disappear as well.
We are investigating further and hopw it is a mistake.
The idea that they are already writing to people about largely hidden internal PC changes is a concern though.
CPs wouldn’t necessarily go when AA ends if they started life as claims for Invalid Care Allowance. Entitlement to this continues even when the qualifying benefit stops.
