I used to tell people this magic number to make a claim for disability living allowance and attendance allowance for many years. Rang it recently.
The answer phone message said it is no more.  But no information on an alternative phone number to get a paper form.
As there are a very large group still able to make a paper claim for disability living allowance or attendance allowance - (Children under 16 and people over 65) what should they do to make an easy claim by phone?
I rang the telephone number on a recent disability living allowance decision letter and asked for a form. The person who answered said they would send a form. Awaiting its arrival.

It’s the main DLA number 0845 7123456.

Option 1 requests a Child DLA or Attendance Allowance form.

many thanks - but how are people who are not benefit advisers expected to know this is the number to ring?

The number quoted above is the main disability benefits helpline number for DLA - it is advertised on the direct gov pages and in the phone book.

We use an advisers number which i beleive is widely known in WELF land but if you don’t have it and want it give me your e mail address and i’ll send you it.

Anyone with the patience to listen for 3 mins 42 secs to the recorded announcement on the previous BEL number will be informed as follows:

people with internet access are directed to http://www.gov.uk

people without internet access then have 3 options to obtain information about:
1) sickness, disability and carers benefits
2) pension age benefits
3) all other benefits.

If they then hold on there are 3 more options to obtain information about:
1) disability benefits for <16 and >65
2) disability benefits for those aged 16-64
3) carers allowance.

There then follows a series of phone numbers for:
other sickness benefits - 0845 608 8545
a claim for PIP - 0800 917 2222
info on PIP following making a claim - 0845 850 3322
info for people currently in receipt of DLA - 08457 123456.

I hope that helps.  I can’t imagine many claimants would hang on that long for the information.
