Bedroom Tax/ Under Occupancy- Armed Forces and the Severe Disability Premium
“Adult children who are in the Armed Forces but who continue to live with parents
will be treated as continuing to live at home, even when deployed on operations. This
means that the size criteria rules will not be applied to the room normally occupied by
the member of the Armed Forces if they intend to return home. In addition Housing
Benefit recipients will not be subject to a non-dependent deduction, i.e. the amount
that those who are working are expected to contribute to the household expenses, until
an adult child return[s] home.” IDS
So, does this mean that adult children are not ‘non-dependants’ for the purposes of the DWP deciding whether or not their mother or father is entitled to a severe disability premium? Or are they just not subject to a non dep deduction because they are in the armed forces? Are they classed as ‘normally residing’ etc.

My guess is as good as yours. There is currently no vehicle to make all this happen, the regs are still as they are, so until we get the regs changed it’s all hot air.
The boss has spoken the DWP will make it happen!!!!!!!!! Will it be done on time??

They can prsent regs within a day or two if the will’s there… Hab Res Amendment regs anyone? What was it, two days from blank papers to fully consulted and laid down?
Why oh why are they not changing the regs for disabled children at the same time?
