Size criteria and pensionable age

Hello all,

The size criteria being introduced in April won’t affect joint claimants where one person is of pensionable age. However when Universal Credit applies would same couple be affected? Or is there some form of transitional protection?

Any help much appreciated.

“The date from which this change will take effect has yet to be confirmed but it will be no earlier than October 2013. Existing ‘mixed age’ couples who are already receiving Pension Credit when this change is introduced will be protected.”

New claims for mixed age couples will be UC claims and will be affected, existing claims should be protected.
