ESA and Carers Allowance

I have a couple on IR ESA who are also both on high rate DLA care.  They have both claimed Carers Allowance and now have two Carers Premiums included in their appropriate amount.  If they had not done this they would have two SDPs in their appropriate amount and be better off by £51.20.
My question is, can they relinquish their Carers Allowance without being accused of intentional deprivation?  Has anyone had a case where clients have done this?  I thought they may be OK if just one of them asked to cancel their claim on the basis they could not look after their partner any more.

Any comments welcomed, thank you.

Can see no problems. It is totally reasonable that two people with that level of care needs would come to the conclusion that they cannot/do not wish to undertake caring responsibilities for each other. Carers Allowance is awarded for a specific commitment - it is not just income that you are entitled to and give up   Ruth
